Last year, the Beijing Marathon was cancelled for the first time in its history due to COVID-19. About 30,000 runners are expected to take part in the 40th Beijing Marathon, which will start at 7:30 am on Oct. 31 from Tiananmen Square.

According to the organizers, "40 Years of Beijing Marathon" documentary, "40 Years of Beijing Marathon Commemorative album", "Beijing Marathon Line cloud Museum" will be launched during this year's race. The Beijing Marathon Expo will be held from October 29 to 30 in Hall 10 of Shougang Garden Clothing Trade Fair. It will set up the goods distribution area for competitors, the history and culture exhibition area, the sponsor brand promotion and display area, etc., which will be convenient for runners to fully experience the cultural connotation of Beima in the past 40 years.

This year's competition will adopt intelligent equipment integrating the functions of face recognition and temperature measurement, which will measure the temperature and identity of the competitors at the stage of receiving goods before the competition, entering the competition day and distributing goods after the competition. Face recognition technology is conducive to improving the efficiency of entry and registration of competitors, strengthening the data collection and analysis of competitors, further improving the security level of the event, and reducing the potential safety hazards and epidemic prevention and control risks caused by the phenomenon of "replacement running".

In addition to the marathon, this year will also hold a parent-child running match with both competition and entertainment, and special post-race interactive carnival including football, table tennis, archery and other sports. The "Energy Run" activity, which consists of five public welfare projects including running with autistic children, will encourage runners to participate in the North Horse public welfare action by donating their running time.

On the scene of the press conference, Gu Jianfen, a famous Chinese composer, received the special contribution award of the competition awarded by the organizing committee. In 1983, she composed the song of Marathon, which has recorded the development of Beima and witnessed the boom of marathon in China for nearly 40 years. On the same day, she presented the manuscript of "Marathon Song" to the organizing committee.
